Viva RCC! Special event, registration drive planned for Sept. 24

Viva RCC! Come celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Robeson Community College as we kickoff festivities on September 24 with a special event and registration drive. The event will take place from 4pm – 6pm in the Student Center located in Building 13.

“Robeson Community College is excited to host this event for our prospective students in celebration of Hispanic heritage, and to showcase our institution,” stated Engle Revels, the director of admissions at RCC. “We are hoping that students will leave with an insightful experience that will galvanize their decision to attend RCC.”

During the celebration, students will be able to receive an on-site admission decision, receive FAFSA help, speak with departmental faculty and staff, and learn more about RCC’s campus clubs and organizations.

“We are thrilled to host our first Viva RCC event as we work to create a culture that is inclusive, providing a sense of belonging and community to our Hispanic population, engaging students to their highest potential,” stated Dr. Johnny Smith, the Vice President of Instruction and student services.

Those attending the event will have an opportunity to enjoy and experience authentic Hispanic cuisine.

Melecio’s will be catering our event, it’s a popular Mexican restaurant in Pembroke and Lumberton,” Revels said. “We will have a taco bar set up. We will be serving Horchata, a sweet rice milk beverage with vanilla and cinnamon. There will be cake – Tres Leches – as well as chips and salsa.”

“There will also be a live DJ playing music,” Revels said. “You don’t want to miss it. It’s going to be a fun event as we embrace the rich culture and heritage of our Hispanic student populations and get people motivated about earning a degree and continuing their education at Robeson Community College.”

Robeson Community College is currently enrolling for upcoming 8-week classes that begin on October 16, as well as continuing education classes that begin at various times through the semester. RCC also offers free English as a Second Language classes and Adult High School programs.

“We invite the Hispanic community to campus, as we celebrate the successes and contributions of our Hispanic students,” Smith said. “We look forward to serving you on September 24 and welcoming you to the RCC Family.”
