RCC receives $25,000 grant from Duke Energy Foundation to enhance workforce training programs

Duke Energy Foundation has awarded Robeson Community College a $25,000 grant to support its workforce training programs. This investment will help RCC to build the next generation of skilled energy workers and support the community’s future growth.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Duke Energy Foundation for their generous support, which will assist our Electrical Lineman program at Robeson Community College. This contribution will help create life-changing career opportunities for our students while strengthening the workforce in our community,” stated RCC President Melissa Singler. “We truly appreciate this partnership, and the invaluable opportunity Duke Energy Foundation has provided.”

This grant is part of Duke Energy’s ongoing commitment to workforce development efforts in North Carolina, which now totals $6.6 million over the last five years.

“As our state and industry continue to grow, North Carolina’s community colleges are helping us meet the moment,” said Kendal Bowman, Duke Energy’s North Carolina president. “As technologies change and we modernize our energy fleet, we want talent here in the state to help us support our communities and build a smarter energy future for customers.”

With Duke Energy continuing to deploy modern energy infrastructure that meet the needs of a growing state, Duke Energy Foundation is investing in programs that will build the next generation workforce and create access to training and job skills that fit community needs.

Robeson Community College currently offers a plethora of workforce development programs, including an electrical lineman program that was launched in 2024 as well as programs leading to long term careers in healthcare, public safety, emergency medicine, business and industry.

“Our staff is actively creating new training solutions that help to meet the growing needs of our industry partners,” stated Executive Vice President Eric Freeman. “We continue to seek new, innovative ways to ensure Robeson County is prepared for the workforce of today and tomorrow.”
