RCC is living local on WBTW
As part of the campaign to raise awareness of apprenticeship programs at Robeson Community College, RCC will be featured in several segments on the WBTW morning show ‘Living Local Carolina’ with host Jessica Grace next week.
The segments will air June 6 through June 10 during the broadcast which airs from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. each day. The segments were made possible through funding received from ApprenticeshipNC.
The theme of each segment will be centered around apprenticeships, as Robeson Community College continues targets businesses in the region to join RCC in establishing apprenticeship programs for its students.
During the broadcasts, viewers will get to hear different voices of the college and become informed of various programs the college has to offer.
- On Monday, Chef James Ingram will be featured in the RCC kitchen with culinary arts students preparing a meal. You’ll also see the works of Chef Linsie Locklear and baking and pastry arts students with the beautiful lemon blueberry cake they have prepared. This will be followed by Michael Jacobs, an instructor in the Business Technologies program, will share opportunities available in IT and cybersecurity.
- On Tuesday, Dr. Eva Meekins will represent RCC’s nursing and health science programs, and she will be joined by Patrick Jacques who will talk about establishing apprenticeship programs at RCC.
- On Wednesday, Robert Ivey will speak about opportunities in Fire/Rescue field, along with Rudy Locklear who will share insights about apprenticeship opportunities in criminal justice and basic law enforcement.
- On Thursday, Timothy Bryant talks about the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration program at RCC, you’ll hear briefly from 2022 Graduate Malinda Locklear who completed the Electrical Systems Technology program and became an apprentice while enrolled at RCC, followed by Patrick Jacques who will inform viewers about how the ApprenticeshipNC program works.
- On Friday, Kenny Locklear will have an opportunity to share with listeners information about RCC’s Emergency Medical Science (Paramedic) and Emergency Medical Services (EMT) programs.
Effective July 1, employers can receive up to $2000 for each eligible apprentice hired, along with receiving up to 50% reimbursement for wages up to $15 per hour, thanks to funding passed by the North Carolina Legislature.
In addition, students who become an apprentice can receive up to $2500 per year to cover costs for tuition, fees, books, and supplies.
