Pembroke’s Jaileana Deese named RCC’s inaugural softball coach

Starting Monday, Robeson Community College will have a new softball coach for its inaugural team on staff.

Pembroke native Jaileana Deese accepted the position as the head coach, and she is planning to hit the ground running as she looks to recruit players and get the team organized for the first game.

“I’m very excited,” Deese said. “I’m looking to build a good culture here at Robeson, the first year will be hard but I believe it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Deese says she was destined to become a coach.

“My Dad is a coach,” she said. “It was great that this opportunity opened up in Robeson County, there is nothing else that I want to do but coach and help the kids.”

While in college, Deese played softball for several schools including Louisburg College her freshman year and North Carolina A&T State University for three years, before landing back home at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

“I received my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and I’m planning to get a master’s degree in Sports Administration,” Deese said.

On Day 1, Deese plans to start reaching out to students and get a head start on recruiting.

“I’ve already got a couple of people in mind,” Deese stated. “I want to start looking first in the county and then branch out into other areas… I like to go out and keep my eyes out on all the players.”

Being from Robeson County, Deese says she understands the importance of her role in helping to shape the future of athletics at Robeson, as well as her recruits.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to lead the inaugural softball team,” Deese said. “I look forward to the year that is ahead and being able to connect with students and help them develop their talents and skills on the field and in the classroom.”

“Adding athletics, baseball and softball, I think it will be great for the college and the community,” said Deese. “I believe it will help bring in more individuals and help expand the school and expanding the knowledge of the school to others.”

During her free time, not surprisingly, Deese says she enjoys staying busy and working out.

“I love being outside, especially when it’s warm,” she said. “I love going on walks with my dog and just being active.”

The new softball team is slated to begin this fall.
