March Huddle brings RCC’s University Transfer Partners together
Students at Robeson Community College had a chance to peruse different opportunities through RCC’s University Transfer Partnership during the 3rd Annual March Huddle.
RCC’s 10 university partners recruiters made their way to Lumberton to converse with students, providing information about various majors, scholarships, and established partnership programs for community college transfer students.
Representatives from NC State University, UNC Pembroke, Appalachian State University, UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Wilmington, East Carolina University, NC Wesleyan University, Fayetteville State University, Methodist University, and Lees-McRae University were all present, and could be seen huddling with students in what was like a pre-game show to decisions that will forever shape their future.

Alyssa Sims talks with recruiters at various universities during the March Huddle at Robeson Community College.
Alyssa Sims, a junior at Lumberton High School who is dually enrolled at RCC as a CCP student, says that today’s event was important, and she’s thankful she could attend.
“It really helps to be able to speak with the different colleges without having to travel,” Sims said. “This has been very informative and gives you an idea of options available in the college spectrum.”
Sims hopes to obtain a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and already has plans to get a Post Doctorate in Pediatric Pharmacy with a concentration in autoimmunity.
As she met with the different recruiters, she says she already has her eyes set on several schools.
“NC State, UNC Wilmington, ECU, and Fayetteville State, that’s my top 4,” Sims said. “I’m excited and a little scared about moving away, it’s sad to leave but I know I can always come back.”

Colton Beebe and Gabrielle Hardee are excited about attending Appalachian State University, but enjoyed getting to speak with recruiters from across North Carolina to see what options were available.
Colton Beebe and Gabrielle Hardee, students enrolled at the early college on campus, already have their hearts set on Appalachian State University but enjoyed the opportunity to see the options available.
“I liked this event, I was able to learn more about pre-med at Appalachian,” stated Hardee. “I went around to all the colleges, tried to hit as many as I could, you never when you might see something that you didn’t consider before.”
“It was a good experience, it’s nice that RCC puts together things for students,” Beebe said, who is also interested in doing pre-med.
Both Beebe and Hardee say they are glad that RCC and App State signed a partnership for guaranteed admission.
“It’s good,” they said.

Kaydon McKee speaks with recruiters about opportunities available for college transfer students.
Kaydon McKee, a junior at Fairmont High School and a CCP student at Robeson Community College, also enjoyed the event.
“This was good, more engaging and a place to get resources, and places to go look online for more information,” McKee said. “It helps you narrow down decisions.”
“I want to major in social work,” McKee said, who hopes to complete his associate of arts at RCC in 2026. “I’m thinking about UNC Chapel Hill, ECU, NC A&T State University, and NC State.”
As students went from table to table, you could overhear them asking questions with excitement and wonder, wanting to know more, taking flyers, brochures, pens, and pennants off tables, if they were available.
Recruiters like Kristen Davis with East Carolina University says, “Most students ask about majors offered, scholarships, and the Pirate Promise partnership.”
“I love it here,” Davis said. “Everybody is always so nice and welcoming, I love being invited to Robeson Community College, everybody is great.”
With three students at her table interested in becoming a medical doctor, she explained the steps they would need to take to get to become a pre-med student.
“Your advisors will make sure you are on the right path,” she said, as the students continued to ask more questions.
“Yes, we have a little bit of something for everybody,” Davis told them.
