English as a Second Language (ESL)
The English as a Second Language program is designed for persons with limited English proficiency. Students who complete the ESL program will improve their ability to communicate verbally and to read and write using standard English. Conversational English will be stressed, as well as vocabulary, spelling, and reading within “real-world” applications.
With an enhanced understanding of the English language, students will have increased job opportunities and be able to manage more effectively challenging life circumstances.
Instruction in citizenship will be provided for students seeking U.S. Citizenship.
Adults 18 years or older.
(Minors 16 and 17 years old meeting RCC criteria may be enrolled if they meet certain guidelines.)
All Adult Basic Education students will be pre-tested with a standardized TABE or CASAS assessment. The results of the testing will determine placement into one of six program levels:
- Beginning ESL Literacy
- Beginning ESL
- Low Intermediate ESL
- High Intermediate ESL
- Low Advanced ESL
- High Advanced ESL
